NEET (UG) – 2025: Admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses

The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG – 2025 will be conducted for admission to undergraduate medical institutions at a national level.

Authority & Regulation

According to Letter No. MCI (34) (41) (Gen) Med/.140542-44 dated 22/10/2018 from the Medical Council of India and directives from the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India, the National Testing Agency (NTA) is responsible for conducting NEET (UG).

About National Testing Agency (NTA)

NTA is an independent, autonomous, and self-sustained premier organization with objectives including:

  • Conducting efficient, transparent, and international standard tests to assess candidate competency.
  • Conducting research to bridge knowledge gaps in educational and professional testing systems.
  • Identifying experts and institutions for examination questions.
  • Producing and disseminating educational and professional research.

NTA's role is limited to conducting the entrance test, declaring results, and providing All India Rank to the Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

The schedule will remain unchanged even if the exam date is declared a public holiday.

General Instructions

  • NEET (UG) – 2025 will follow regulations of the Indian Medical Council Act-1956 and the Dentists Act-1948.
  • Qualifying in NEET (UG) – 2025 does not guarantee admission; admission is subject to fulfilling eligibility criteria, merit rank, medical fitness, and other prescribed conditions.
  • Applications containing false information will lead to disqualification and further debarment.
  • Incomplete applications or applications not adhering to guidelines will be rejected without notice; no fee refund will occur in such cases.
  • Once submitted, applications cannot be withdrawn or carried forward. Fee deduction from a bank account alone does not confirm fee payment; confirmation must be reflected officially.
  • Instructions may change based on decisions by the NTA or other authorities. Regularly visit https://exams.nta.ac.in/NEET for updates.
  • NTA reserves the right to revoke permission inadvertently granted to ineligible candidates.
  • Eligibility remains provisional and subject to verification by concerned authorities.
  • In case of ambiguity regarding instructions or rules, NTA's interpretation will be final and binding.
  • The examination will be video graphed; candidates must keep their heads upright facing the camera for clear identity verification.

NEET UG 2025 Eligibility and Qualifications

Eligibility to appear in NEET (UG) – 2025

Eligibility for appearing in NEET (UG) is as stipulated in Indian Medical Council Act-1956 and the Dentists Act-1948 as amended in 2018.

Eligibility as per related Regulations is as follows:-

  • He/she has completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or will complete that age on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the 1st year MBBS/BDS Course.
  • The upper age limit for NEET (UG) is 25 years as on the date of examination with relaxation of 5 years for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC category and persons entitled for reservation under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

The Age criteria for appearing in NEET (UG) – 2025 is as follows:

Indian Citizens/ Overseas Citizens of India intending to pursue MBBS/ BDS from a foreign Medical/ Dental Institute also need to qualify NEET (UG).

  • Eligibility for seats under control of States/Deemed Universities/Central Universities/ESIC and AFMC including Delhi University (DU), BHU & AMU/central pool quota
  • Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Persons with Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals are eligible subject to respective regulations.
  • Foreign nationals may confirm their eligibility from the concerned Medical/Dental College/State.
  • Eligibility for 15% All India Quota seats
  • Indian Nationals, Non Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizen of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals are eligible for 15% All India Quota Seats.
  • Candidates from State of J & K, Laddakha.

Students from State of J & K are eligible for 15% All India Quota seats as State of J&K has opted out of All India Scheme since inception. Eligible candidates must submit online Self Declaration, provided automatically with confirmation page. The Self-Declaration Form is in Appendix III.

  • The online Self Declaration will be verified during counselling; false claims will lead to cancellation and possible criminal proceedings.
  • Candidates from J & K can appear in NEET (UG) for admission to Private Medical/Dental Colleges or Private/Deemed University and Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), subject to eligibility conditions.
  • Qualifications and Qualifying Examination Codes
CODE ELIGIBILITY
CODE: 01 A candidate appearing in the qualifying examination, i.e., 12th Standard in 2025, whose result is awaited, may apply but he/she shall not be eligible for admission to MBBS or BDS if he/she does not pass the qualifying examination with the required percentage of marks at the first round of Counselling.
OR
CODE: 02 The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or the Indian School Certificate Examination equivalent to 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination after 12 years of study, the last two years of study comprising Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology and Mathematics or any elective subject with English as prescribed by NCERT. Candidates who have passed 10+2 from Open School or as private candidates shall not be eligible. Also, Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject at 10+2 level shall not be permissible.

The provision in italics is subject matter of challenge before the courts.

CODE: 03 The Intermediate/Pre-degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/Board or other recognised examining body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology (including practical tests) and English as a compulsory subject.
OR
CODE: 04 The Pre-professional/Pre-medical Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology & English after passing either Higher Secondary Examination or Pre-University/equivalent examination. This exam must include practical tests.
OR
CODE: 05 The first year of the three years’ degree course of a recognised University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Bio-technology including practical tests provided the examination is a University Examination and the candidate has passed earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology with English at a level not less than a core course.
OR
CODE: 06 B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University provided that he/she has passed the B.Sc. Examination with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany, Zoology)/Bio-technology and also passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
OR
CODE: 07 Any other examination which in scope and standard (Last 02 years of 10+2 Study comprising Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology with practical tests) is equivalent to Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board, taking Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology including practical tests in each of these subjects and English.

Additional Eligibility Conditions for NEET UG 2025:

  • Candidates must pass the qualifying examinations as listed above or appear in the qualifying examination in 2024. Additionally, candidates must obtain a minimum of 50% marks combined in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Bio-technology, and English subjects as per Graduate Medical Education Regulations, 1997 amended in 2018 and must appear in the merit list of NEET (UG) – 2025 for admission to MBBS/BDS/BAMS/BUMS and BSMS Courses.
  • For candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, or Other Backward Classes, qualifying examination marks required are 40% instead of 50%. PwD candidates require 45% marks in qualifying examinations.
  • Students educated abroad seeking admission into Indian medical colleges must have passed Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English up to the 12th standard with at least 50% marks. Their qualification equivalence must be recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), in accordance with regulations from the Medical Council of India and the concerned university.
  • Candidates who do not match qualifications under codes 01-07 must provide complete details to determine eligibility.
Note:
  • The Pre-medical course may be pursued at either a Medical College or a Science College.
  • Marks in Mathematics will not count towards eligibility for MBBS/BDS/BAMS/BUMS and BSMS Courses.
  • Candidates from Foreign/International Boards must ensure their qualifying examination aligns with the requirements detailed in CODE: 07.

NEET UG 2025 Submission of Application Form and Payment of Fee

Preparation for filling up Application Form

A candidate can apply for NEET (UG) – 2025 online via www.ntaneet.nic.in.

Before submission of application form, make the following preparations:

  • Information such as names, Aadhaar Number (last 4 digits), Election Card (EPIC No.), Passport number, Bank Account Number, valid Govt. Identity Card, Date of Birth, Address, Mobile Number, email ID, etc. must be accurate. Candidates may refer to the "Replica of Application-2025" available on the website.
  • Candidates should have one of the following identity documents ready:

NEET UG 2025 Instructions for completing online Application Form:

  • Candidates must verify eligibility criteria in the Information Bulletin thoroughly before submission.
  • Fill complete postal address with PIN code and email address (personal or parents only).
  • Ensure correct mobile number and email ID for receiving communications from NTA.
  • Do not provide postal addresses, contact numbers, or email IDs of Coaching Centres.
  • Fill appropriate Code Number as per qualification. If none matches, select 'others'.
  • Candidates appearing in Class XII in 2025 should fill qualifying code as 01.
  • Application Form submitted online is final; no need to send printed Confirmation Page to NTA. However, retain at least four printed copies along with fee payment proof for future reference.
  • State of J & K candidates must submit Self Declaration (para-3(b) of Chapter-3) for 15% All India Quota seats.
  • No requests for changes after submission will be entertained.
  • Incomplete applications will be rejected.
  • Only one application per candidate; submitting more than one application will lead to cancellation.
  • Use the OTP generated on the NEET (UG) – 2025 website within 15 minutes. If expired, click "RESEND OTP".

Note:
  • In addition to examination fee, service/processing charges plus applicable taxes will be charged for online payment through Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking. Details available on NTA website.
  • Application fees once submitted cannot be withdrawn or refunded.
  • Refunds (if any, from NTA) will be credited to the original payment account only.

Method of Fee Payment:

  • Payment using appropriate mode: After Step 2 of Application Form, proceed to Step 3 for fee payment.
  • Select Payment/Service Provider (Charges per transaction & GST 18% applicable).

Online Mode (Debit/Credit card and Net Banking):

  • Ensure Debit/Credit card validity and availability.
  • Keep Net Banking credentials ready for seamless transactions.

Cash Deposit (e-challan):

  • After Step 2, generate an e-slip in A4 size paper (Landscape) format from NEET (UG) – 2025 website (ntaneet.nic.in).
  • Follow e-slip instructions and pay via e-challan.
  • Print Confirmation Page (Step-4) post payment.
  • Failure in Step 4 means the Application Form submission remains incomplete and unsuccessful.
  • Generation of Confirmation Page signifies successful submission of the Application Form. Absence indicates non-submission.
Note: In case payment status shows 'OK', candidates must ensure:

Photograph and Signatures

Candidates are advised to use the following photographs:
  • Passport size, white background, face clearly visible, eyes open and ears visible. Latest photograph must be uploaded.
  • No scenery or objects in the background.
  • No caps or goggles; spectacles allowed if regularly used.
  • No polaroid or computer-generated images; non-compliance will result in rejection. Fabricated or digitally edited images considered as unfair means.
  • Signature to be uploaded in running handwriting. Initials unacceptable. Writing in capital letters leads to rejection.
  • Ensure photograph and signature uploaded in respective fields only.
  • Upload scanned photograph (size: 10 kb – 200 kb). Only one face allowed using face-detection technology.
  • Carry identical Passport size photograph to the examination centre for pasting on Attendance Sheet on examination day.

Information regarding online Application Form and Fee

  • Application status can be checked in the candidate’s login. Generate and print Confirmation Page (Step-4) upon successful fee payment. The Confirmation Page is proof of payment and fee updation. Maintain 3-4 copies of Confirmation Page.

NEET UG 2025 Admit Card

  • NTA facilitates Admit Card download from its official website only. Admit Cards will not be sent by post. A PDF version will also be emailed. Admit Card includes Roll Number, Name, Father's Name, Category, Sub-category, Photograph, Signature, Date of Birth, Language of Question Paper, and Exam Centre address.

NEET UG 2025 Examination Day Guidelines

  • Admit Card must be shown for admission; entry without a valid Admit Card is prohibited.
  • Invigilators verify Admit Card and sign on the Attendance Sheet and Answer Sheet provided to candidates.
  • Candidates must occupy the seat assigned as per their Roll Number.
  • No entry after 01:30 p.m. under any circumstances.
  • Mandatory documents on examination day:
    • Print copy of Admit Card (downloaded from NTA’s website).
    • One passport-size photograph (identical to uploaded photograph).
    • Valid photo ID: PAN Card / Driving License / Voter ID / Passport / Aadhaar Card (with photograph) / Ration Card.
    • PwD certificate (if applicable).
  • Candidates must not bring barred items (Chapter-11) as there are no safekeeping arrangements. Possession of such items results in disqualification.
  • Candidates must stay in the Examination Hall until the test concludes. OMR Sheets must be submitted to invigilators before leaving.
  • Smoking in the examination centre is strictly prohibited.
  • No tea, coffee, cold drinks, snacks, chocolates, candy or sandwiches are permitted. Diabetic candidates may carry sugar tablets, fruits, and a transparent water bottle (prior intimation needed).
  • Examination begins exactly as indicated in Admit Card following the invigilator's announcement.
  • Important instructions will be announced before the exam starts.
  • Signals will be given at the beginning, halftime, and just before the test ends. Candidates must immediately stop marking responses at the final signal.
  • Candidates must sign the Attendance Sheet twice—at the start and when handing in the Answer Sheet.
  • Verify that the Test Booklet contains the correct number of pages as mentioned on the cover.
  • No re-test shall be conducted under any circumstances.
  • Diabetic candidates will be cared for according to NTA guidelines.

NEET UG 2025 - Scoring and Marking

  • Each correct response awards 4 marks.
  • Each incorrect response deducts 1 mark. No marks deducted if no response is indicated.
  • Multiple answers for a single question are marked incorrect and negatively marked.
  • Evaluation is based on Test Booklet Code printed on Answer Sheet (Side-2).

NEET UG 2025 Unfairmeans, Practices and Breach of Examination Rules

Definition

Unfairmeans practice includes (but is not limited to):

  • Possessing prohibited or unfair-practice items (stationery, communication devices, ornaments, etc.)
  • Engaging another person for impersonation or copying.
  • Violating rules/directives issued by NTA.
  • Assisting or attempting assistance to others.
  • Writing irrelevant content on Answer Sheets.
  • Damaging Answer Sheet or Test Booklet.
  • Unauthorized communication during the exam.
  • Removing Answer Sheet from the examination hall.
  • Smuggling question paper or Answer Sheet parts.
  • Threatening or obstructing officials or candidates.
  • Using unfair methods during the exam.
  • Manipulating or fabricating online documents.
  • Forceful entry/exit to/from the Examination Centre/Hall.
  • Misuse or attempted misuse of electronics after exam.
  • Affixing/uploading morphed photograph on Application/Admit Card.
  • Erasing/altering information on OMR sheet.
  • Providing incorrect information.
